Stanislaus Jankowski, also known as Stephan, was born in Charlub, Posen, Poland on September 22, 1861. He was the twin brother of Michael Jankowski. Both twins were baptized on the same day they were born in the parish church at Mchy, Poland. Sometime around 1883, Stanislaus married Frances Franzkociak in Poland. The spelling of her last name is somewhat doubtful. This spelling was taken from daughter Rosa's birth record - the only official document listing her maiden name that I have been able to find. It is much more likely that her maiden name was spelled Frackowiak.
It is unknown where Stanislaus and Frances married, or where they resided prior to coming to America. But it is known and documented that the young family (Stanislaus, Frances, Mary, and John) immigrated to the United States from Bremen, Germany aboard the S.S. Rhein, arriving in Baltimore, Maryland on September 12, 1889. They immigrated along with his parents, Constantin and Barbara, and his sisters, Francisca and Hedwigla. Together they made the overland journey to Wisconsin, eventually settling in the Rolling Township near Antigo.
Two of the couple's children, Mary and John, were born in Poland. Katie and Rosa were both born in Rolling, Wisconsin - Katie in 1892 and Rosa in 1897. I have found no other documents indicating additional children.
On September 12, 1906, exactly 17 years to the day after arriving in America, Stanislaus was naturalized as a citizen of the United States. Under federal laws in place at that time, his spouse and children also became naturalized citizens once Stanislaus had completed the naturalization process.
Stanislaus died on February 25, 1921 at the age of 59. Frances followed in 1937. Both are buried in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Antigo. Son John also died in 1937, but I am unsure of the exact date and whether or not his death is related to that of Frances.
