Constantin Jankowski Family Immigration

Below are portions of 3 pages from the passenger list of the S.S. Rhein which departed from Bremen, Germany,
and arrived in Baltimore on September 12, 1889. Passengers included Konstantin, wife Barbara, daughters
Franceska and Hedwig, son Stanislaus, daughter-in-law Franceska, granddaughter Marianna, and grandson Johann.

The top page is the cover sheet, which indicates the name of the ship. Even though the paper is entitled "Port of
New York", the Rhein actually arrived at the Port of Baltimore. This is a common occurrence. Apparently, the Port
of Baltimore had not yet printed up its own Passenger Manifest sheets. Or, perhaps the demand far exceeded the supply!

The middle page is the listing for the Jankowski family, with name, age, and sex of each. It indicates that the family came
from Prussia, with a destination Wisconsin. Konstantin is listed as a farmer by trade, and Stanislaus was a butcher.

The bottom page is a copy of the last page of the passenger list, which typically includes a summary of the ship's
passengers. The S.S. Rhein arrived in Baltimore on September 12, 1889, carrying 544 passengers. Of these, 63 were U.S.
citizens, and the remaining 481 were immigrating to the United States.
