Constantin Jankowski was born in March of 1829 in Poland. Little is known of his childhood, but in 1852 he married Barbara Frackowiak in Poniec, Poland. Barbara was born November 25, 1835 in Mchy, Poland, the daughter of Joseph Frackowiak and Agatha Bryzkow. The couple settled in Charlub, Posen, Poland, where Constantin most likely toiled the land of the manor there. Their first child, Marianna, was born around 1853. She was followed by Ignatius, Kathryn, twins Stanislaus and Michael, Albert, another Marianna, Frank, Francisca, and finally Hedwigla. Both Mariana's, along with Ignatius, died young in Poland. All the others except Katharina emigrated to the United States. Katharina married Antonius Baczkiewicz on September 11, 1881 in Poland. According to Lena, she did not emigrate to America, but died in Poland.
In 1889, Constantin, Barbara, Francisca, and Hedwigla emigrated from Poland to the United States along with Stanislaus, his wife Franziska, and their children Marianne and Johann. Their journey took them overland from Charlub to Bremen, Germany. Typically, this part of the journey would have been by foot or train, carrying with them little more than a suitcase or two. From Bremen they sailed on the Rhein to Baltimore, Maryland, arriving September 12, 1889. Eventually they made their way to Rolling, Wisconsin, near Antigo, where they bought land and took to farming. Sons Mike, Albert, and Frank also emigrated to America, but all came separately at different times. However, all of them settled in the Antigo area.
On August 20, 1893, Barbara Jankowski succumbed to an abdominal tumor. She was 57 years old. Constantin died in 1908 in Rolling at the age of 79. His burial site remains unknown.
