1792 or earlier Lucas Jankowski (father of Joseph, grandfather of Constantin) married Anna Kaczmierzakow in Poland. This is possibly Lucas's second marriage. Marriage probably took place in Czarkowo, since all children were born there and Lucas and Anna both died there. Date is approximate based on Adalbert being born in April of 1793.

Immigration

6/27/1888 Mike Jankowski (son of Constantin and Barbara) immigrated to America. He took the train to Antigo to live with a friend from Poland. He got a job in a sawmill in Elmhurst for $1.25 per week! Bought 65 acres to farm, building the house himself by hand – even cutting trees and shaping planks. Walked 5 miles to work each day. Sent money to Poland for the rest of his family to come to America. (psgr list)
1889 Constantin, Barbara, Francisca, Hedwigla, along with Stanislaus (Stephan), his wife Franziska, daughter Marianne, and son Johann Jankowski emigrated from their village in Poland (Charlub) to Bremen, Germany. Most likely, they traveled by train. From Bremen, they boarded the SS Rhein for the journey to America, destination Baltimore.
9/12/1889 Constantin, Barbara, Francisca, Hedwigla, along with Stanislaus (Stephan), his wife Franziska, daughter Marianne, and son Johann Jankowski immigrated to the USA, arvg in the port of Baltimore from Bremen, Germany, aboard the SS Rhein. (psgr list)

5/26/1896 Mike Jankowski (son of Constantin and Barbara) married Rosa Lewandowski (dau of John and Anna) at St. John’s in Menasha (marriage record). Rev. L. J. Pescinski performed the ceremony, which was witnessed by Francis Landig and Appolonia Lewandowski. They had met when Mike traveled from Antigo to Menasha to see about a girl (Rosa) who had rejected a previous suitor 2 days before the wedding. Mike and Rosa married after only about 3 dates. The young family often traveled by train to Menasha to visit Rosa’s sister Lena (Lewandowski) Danowski, and her husband Joe.

The Later Years

4/3/1913 Mike Jankowski files his Petition for Naturalization, the 2nd (of 3) steps to become a US citizen. (natur petition)
10/6/1913 Mike Jankowski (son of Constantin and Barbara) naturalized and became a citizen of the United States of America, more than 25 years after immigrating from Poland. He was then 52 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with blue eyes and gray hair. With his naturalization complete, wife Rosalia and children also become US citizens. (natur. certificate)
10/16/1916 Hedwigla Pawlak (dau of Constantin and Barbara) age 43 died in Antigo, WI. Buried in Queen of Peace Cemetery Antigo. (headstone)
Approx 1918 Lena Jankowski (dau of Mike and Rosa) moved from Antigo to Menasha to live with Joe Danowski and his wife Lena (Lewandowski) Danowski (Rosa’s sister), while attending vocational school to learn to sew. She attended school for 1 year, then got a job at Menasha Woodenware, piling wooden pail handles. She worked for 1 year, then went back to Antigo to help on the family farm. (Lena)
6/5/1918 John Jankowski (son of Mike and Rosa) registered for the draft. At the time, he was employed by his dad (Mike) working on the family farm. According to his draft card, a car had injured his left foot at an earlier age. (draft card)
approx 1919 Celia Zielinski (dau of John and Catherine - approx 9 years old) moved in with the Mike and Rosa Jankowski family. Her mother had died in 1916 and her father in 1918. The Jankowski's became her guardians.
10/18/1919 Albert Jankowski (son of Constantin and Barbara) age 54 died in Antigo, WI. Buried in Queen of Peace Cemetery Antigo. (headstone)
4/7/1920 1920 US Census Mike Jankowski (age 58 - son of Constantin and Barbara), with Rosa (wife-53), John (son-22), Lena (dau-20), Anna (dau-15), Edward (son-14), Celia (adopted dau-9), Joseph (nephew), residing in Rolling, WI, immigrated 1886.

Approx 1921 Lena Jankowski (dau of Mike and Rosa) returned to Menasha from Antigo. Moved in with the Danowski’s, and got a job at Jersild’s Knitting Mill, spooling yarn at $0.50 per hour. She worked there for 5 years. During this time, Lena went with Mrs. Danowski on a visit to Margaret Zielinski’s house, where she was introduced to Lawrence Zielinski. The couple dated for about 3 years before getting married. (Lena)

8/24/1924 Lawrence Zielinski (son of Frank and Sophie – age 28) married Apolonia “Lena” Jankowski (dau of Mike and Rosa - age 24) at St. John’s Church in Menasha. Witnesses were Anna Jankowski, Benedict Zielinski, Helen Pawlak and Edward Bednarowski. Honeymoon in Antigo! (marr cert)
8/21/1930 1930 US census Mike Jankowski (68 - son of Constantin and Barbara), Rose (wife-64), Edward (son-24) living on a farm on RR5 in Rolling, Wisconsin. Shows both Mike and Rosa immigrated in 1886, which is not correct. They are naturalized citizens of the United States. Mike was married at 34, Rose at 30. (1930 census)
5/21/1940 1940 US census - Mike Jankowski (78 - son of Constantin and Barbara), Rose (wife-75) living on a farm in Rolling, Wisconsin. Mike is listed as a Farm Manager. Mike and Rosa's son Ed, his wife Celia, and their 2 children also live in the farm house. (1940 census)
1/24/1943 Francisca Jankowski Pawlak (dau of Constantin and Barbara) age 71 died in Antigo. Buried in Queen of Peace Cemetery (headstone)
