John Lewandowski Family Immigration


 In late 1883, the Lewandowski family emigrated from Poland. They traveled overland to Antwerp, Belgium. There they bought tickets from the Red Star Line, for passage to America on the S.S. Switzerland. On January 7, 1884, the Switzerland arrived in New York harbor. Below are excerpts from the passenger list of the S.S. Switzerland, including the front page with ship information, and the page of the passenger list showing the Lewandowski family. Shown onboard are: John Lewandowski - age 57 - farmer, Frank - age 22 - shoemaker, Rosalia - age 18, Anna - age 54, and Apolonia - age 11. All are from Prussia with a final destination of Savannah. They carry with them 4 pieces of luggage! red star line
